of the historic city of Zaragoza in Spain. Long before its
official organization, the territory was a dense wilderness
originally known to its early settlers as “San
Vicente”. It initially operated as a component barrio
under the jurisdiction of Aliaga. Following a steady influx of
migrating families who cleared the land for cultivation, it
successfully petitioned for corporate freedom. Zaragoza was
officially established as an independent municipality on
February 28, 1849, simultaneously separating from Aliaga through
the efforts of its early community leaders.
Zaragoza is strategically tucked in the southwestern edge of
Nueva Ecija, bordered by the municipalities of Aliaga and Licab
to the north, San Antonio and Jaen to the south, and the province
of Tarlac to the west. Based on official census figures, the
municipality records a population of 53,090 residents. It serves
as a peaceful, top-performing agricultural town in Central Luzon,
widely recognized for its vast plains and its highly productive
farming sectors.
