Llanera

Llanera

4th Class Municipality

Number of Barangay: 22

The name Llanera was coined in honor of
General Mariano Llanera, a magnificent Filipino
revolutionary general from Nueva Ecija who famously led the 1896
“Cry of Nueva Ecija” against Spanish colonial forces. The Spanish
word Llanera also beautifully describes the area’s physical
terrain, which translates to a “plain” or “flat land”. Long before
its formal organization, the territories were fragmented
settlement lands divided among the towns of San Jose, Talavera,
and Rizal. On May 11, 1955, the municipality was officially
established through Republic Act No. 1221, permanently separating
these pioneer barrios into an independent town center with
Barangay Bagumbayan as its poblacion.Llanera is strategically tucked near the central section of Nueva
Ecija, nestled directly south of San Jose City. Based on the
Philippine Statistics Authority census data, the municipality
records a population of 44,620 residents. It serves as a prime
agricultural town, widely celebrated for its rich, vast green
plains. To celebrate its cultural heritage, the town hosts the
vibrant, annual Banuar A Mannalon Festival (also
celebrated as the Kapagayan Festival) every May—a colorful
thanksgiving celebration honoring the local farming community’s
heroic efforts and abundant rice harvests.
